CV Settings on Decoders
The Configuration Variables (CV) or Registers in the decoders can be set on this page. The most important CVs can be set when you are doing the configuration for the locomotive.
Note: The configuration of the CVs and the adjustable values for each can be found in the instructions for your locomotive / decoder.
The first thing you have to do above is set the type of
programming or the type of decoder. Below are the possible choices:
POM Programming On
The Main (POM) is a special form of programming in which the
locomotive is programmed while it is in operation, i.e. the locomotive
does not have to be standing on the programming track and does not have
to be stopped. POM must be supported by the decoder in use (see decoder
instructions) and only certain settings can be programmed using POM.
POM cannot be used to read out values from a decoder / locomotive.
PRG The usual form of
programming is PRG. The locomotive must be standing on the programming
track to do this. Values can be read, changed, and programmed.
REG There are decoders
that do not work with CVs; they work with Registers. In order to
program these decoders, REG must be selected. The locomotive must be
standing on the programming track to do this type of programming.
Values can be read, changed, and programmed.
The CV Table
The contents of the table shown can be changed manually and adapted to
your particular needs.
In the first column (CV No.) you can set the CVs required by you, in
the column after that (Name) you can record what the CV is setting,
example "CV 5" - "Vmax". The name is only for better orientation and
has no influence.
In the column Value you can now enter the value for the desired
setting. After that the column Bit Display will show which bits in the
desired value are turned on or off.
You can then program the altered values into the decoder with the
button .
If you are not sure, you can read the actual setting for a CV from the
decoder before doing any programming by clicking on the button .
The values read out are taken into the table and can then be changed.
Note for DCC: Settings for the address (CV 1) and the number of speed levels (CV 29) should never be changed using the CV table. If you want to change them, there is a simple programming step that you can do during the configuration of the locomotive.
There is another special feature to be aware of in the bit display:
In the case of a CV that is currently selected, the bits that are
turned on or are to be turned on are shown in white type, while the
bits that are turned off or are to be turned off are shown in their
normal color (blue background). A third display possibility is the
number with a gray line through it. This means that this bit plays no
role in the programming of the decoder; i.e. it remains unchanged in
the decoder.
